The NPS drone ban was issued as Policy Memorandum 14-05 on June 19, 2014, and stated that all drones are prohibited in 417 national parks, 23 trails, and 60 rivers under national park boundaries. Anyone caught operating a drone in National Parks without NPS or FAA approval can be fined up to $25,000 by National Park Service (NPS) officials.
However, there are some rules you need to follow before flying your drone in a national park: You must be at least 16 years old. You must have a current Remote Pilot Certification or equivalent training (like an AMA-approved course). Your drone cannot weigh more than 55 pounds (~25 kg). Your drone cannot fly higher than 400 feet (120 meters).
